Fama Residence, Oceanport, New Jersey

The owner of a newly purchased farmhouse, along the banks of the Shrewsbury River, approached Rudolph Architects to re-plan and renovate the existing structure. The site was magnificent, but the small rooms and low ceilings of the existing home proved unsuitable for the ambitious dreams of the new owners. The house was razed, and plans for a contemporary, shingle-style home were in the works. With 270 degree panoramic views, siting of the house was critical.  Bedrooms, the kitchen and the breakfast niche receive morning sun. All bedrooms have outdoor terraces. The two-story great room and the screened porch enjoy commanding views up the river and towards the setting sun. Other program features include a billiards room and a private sitting room. Deep overhangs and a massive central chimney allow the home to appear both floating and firmly anchored to the site.
