Fahey Residence, Fair Haven, New Jersey

The Fahey Residence is located on the south bank of the Navesink River in Fair Haven, New Jersey. The dwelling, a two-story frame building, occupies a central location on the partially wooded site. The project included; the remodeling and re-planning of the existing 1950’s structure, the addition of a family room, a new kitchen, breakfast room, a billiards room, and a porte cochere with two bedrooms above. Exquisite views of the Navesink River played an important role in developing the project, both in plan and section. Unobstructed views from the kitchen and breakfast niche were afforded by elevating these program elements, yet a free-flowing plan maintains the contemporary lifestyle of the client. Warmth and openness abound in this modern-day cottage. The front addition is composed of a new porte cochere that defines an elegant entrance to the house, and above, two new bedrooms with a balcony overlooking the lawn and gardens. A new sitting room, in the cupola above the family room, provides the master bedroom with commanding views over the river. The clients were thrilled with the transformation of their home into a warm and unique shingle style cottage. Planning of the home is such that all rooms have unobstructed views of the river.  Openness simplifies movement through the house, yet each room has its own charm and unique character. New interior spaces are flooded with daylight and detailed with simple, clean lines.
